Cape Cod beach walking

The first time I visited Cape Cod, two years ago in 2021, I stayed at a place more centrally located on the cape, Yarmouth Port. I wandered the villages and beaches on the Atlantic coast, as well as a few other interesting spots (see below for links). Falmouth is on the southwestern point of the Cape. This trip, I checked out some of the beaches of Falmouth on the southern and western shore.

In the summer, I had walked the Shining Sea bike path to Falmouth Beach and Surf Drive Beach, but there were few parking areas and the somewhat small areas of sand were crowded. In September, however, the crowds were gone and I could park by Surf Drive Beach and spend some time walking, letting my bare feet sink into the cool sand, and even dip into the chilly waters. Woodneck Beach and Chapoquoit Beach were pleasant, but Old Silver Beach, a bit further north, was my favorite, with enough of a sandy apron for people to sunbathe, play volleyball, and walk some distance. I can’t recall which of these photos came from which beach, but each was lovely in its own way. Fragrant sea breeze, gentle rhythmic waves, the company of sea birds, and interesting things to find hiding in the sand.

One calm evening I returned to west-facing Woodneck for sunset.

And a few sights around Falmouth

Hurricane Lee passed far enough out to sea not to be destructive. Just a day and a half of wind and rain.

  1. Your photos give me plenty of reasons to want to go back. Our one trip to the Cape was a determined effort to make it to Provincetown and back in a day, so virtually all of the sightseeing was from inside the car. Next time we’ll spend more time out there!
